Careermake ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website careermake.ai (the "Platform"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use our Platform.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you sign in using Google OAuth, we collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture URL
  • Google account identifier

We do not access or store your Google password.

1.2 Career Profile Information

During onboarding and platform usage, you provide:

  • Current role and experience level
  • Target role and career goals
  • Technical skills and self-assessed skill levels
  • Company target preferences (startup, product company, etc.)
  • Time availability and learning constraints
  • Resume availability and application status
  • Interview experience level
  • Free-text career context (optional)

1.3 Platform-Generated Data

Based on your inputs, the Platform generates and stores:

  • Career diagnosis reports (readiness scores, dimension analysis, recommendations)
  • Personalized 90-day career roadmaps and tasks
  • Learning playbook progress and step completions
  • Weekly check-in responses and adjustments
  • Mock interview sessions, answers, and AI-generated feedback

1.4 Contact Form Data

If you use our Contact Us form, we collect your name, email address, reason for contact, and message content.

1.5 Automatically Collected Information

  • Browser type and version
  • IP address
  • Device identifiers
  • Platform usage patterns and feature interactions
  • Application logs (for debugging and performance monitoring)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Authenticate your identity and maintain your account
  • Provide personalized career diagnosis and recommendations
  • Generate career roadmaps, playbooks, and task plans
  • Conduct AI-powered mock interviews and provide feedback
  • Track your learning progress and adjust recommendations

3. AI and Third-Party Processing

3.1 AI-Powered Features

We use OpenAI's API to power several features including career diagnosis, roadmap generation, and mock interview feedback. When using these features, relevant portions of your career profile data are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy and API data usage policy.

We do not send your name, email address, or other directly identifying information to OpenAI.

When you enter free-text answers, mock interview responses, AI coach questions, or similar content, you are responsible for the information you choose to include. Do not submit passwords, secrets, personal contact details, employer-confidential information, or other sensitive data. Your submitted content may be processed by our AI service providers to generate feedback, coaching, or related Platform functionality.

3.2 Google OAuth

We use Google OAuth solely for authentication. We only access basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) that you authorize during sign-in.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share data with:

  • Cloud infrastructure providers (Google Cloud Platform) for hosting and operating the Platform
  • AI service providers (OpenAI) for generating career recommendations and feedback, as described in Section 3
  • Email service providers for sending notification emails
  • Legal authorities when required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Where We Store Data

Your data is stored on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure in the United States (us-west1 region). Contact form submissions are stored in Google Cloud Storage, and all other data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore.

5.2 Security Measures

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Authentication via JWT tokens with expiration
  • Role-based access controls on infrastructure
  • Secrets management for API keys and credentials

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

6.1 Access Your Data

You can view your profile, career diagnosis, roadmaps, playbook progress, and mock interview history through the Platform at any time.

6.2 Delete Your Account

You can request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data directly from the Platform. Upon deletion, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Profile and account settings
  • Onboarding answers
  • Career diagnoses
  • Roadmap, task progress, and task completions
  • Weekly check-ins
  • Mock interview sessions and answers

A minimal audit log of the deletion action (timestamp, reason) is retained for compliance purposes.

6.3 Reset Your Profile

You can reset your career profile to start fresh without deleting your account. This removes your onboarding data, diagnoses, roadmap, task progress, task completions, check-ins, and mock interview data while keeping your account active.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

The Platform uses JWT (JSON Web Token) for authentication. Tokens are stored in your browser and expire after 24 hours (access token) or 7 days (refresh token). We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

8. Data Retention

  • Active accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
  • Deleted accounts: All user data is permanently deleted upon account deletion, except for a minimal audit log retained for compliance.
  • Contact form submissions: Retained for as long as necessary to address your inquiry.
  • Application logs: Retained for up to 30 days for debugging and monitoring purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Platform with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
